The Music Notepad is a system for creating music notation through 2D gestural input, allowing users to sketch music with the look and feel of paper and pencil. The system utilizes a probability-based interpreter to interpret sequences of gestural input to perform common notation and editing operations. The paper presented at UIST '98 discussed the user's model of the system, the components of the high-level recognition system, and user feedback.
